MOBO award winning Akala, at first glance has all the characteristics to be straight from the Hip Hop textbook – the angry child of a broken home coupled with a less than ideal schooling.
However, the real Akala runs a lot deeper than this. With a thirst for intellect and the truth, he spent a large part of his childhood immersing himself with history, philosophy and Shakespeare. The latter being a strong influence on his last record ‘Its not a rumor’.
Akala was the first rapper of this new generation of hip hoppers to seriously experiment with multiple genres. His new album Double Think, released on the 3rd May, proves he has now fused them into his own inimitable cohesive sound.
The 10th November sees Akala return to The Forum for a second time, hoping to emulate the sell-out show that preceded. Based on his first Tunbridge Wells performance, be quick to ensure you’re attending this one.
